Working with directories on Linux web server

I managed creating new folder and copying a file to it on the web server, through PHP script, applying chmod 0777 to both directory and file, but I cannot delete any of them (permission denied). Whe web server is on Linux.

Help?!

first u should delete all files in the dir. then u can remove dir.

del .
cd ..
del <yourdir>

but i'm not sure.

The created folder may hold many files... At certain times I want to delete the file I don't need anymore. Then I check if there are no files left in directory, then I try deleting the directory, but it just won't do it, sending me messages about some permission restrictions...
