Playing with URLs

Sorry I couldn't think of a better subject, its 5:11am in the morning here, and its been a lonnnnggg night PHPing away and drinking coffee 😉

I was wondering if it was posssible to do something like this:

Have a URL, like so:

http://www.yoursite.com/article/4329.html

or

http://www.yoursite.com/article-4329.html

And use a PHP script or htaccess directive to turn the '4329' (and/or 'article') into variables to pull data from a database etc.

I know you can do it with 'folders' e.g.

http://www.yoursite.com/articles/4329/

But I preferred the first for a few purposes 🙂

If anyone could help, I'd be a very very very happy man 😃

Hello,

If they have to access the page 4329.htm anyways, why don't you make it to where on that page, when loaded, it will set a session with that pages name. Then on any other pages from then on just call the session. I don't know how much that helped because I wasn't sure on your question.

This works with /article/3402.php (or other numbers):
