session management

Hello,

i'm new to php so sorry if this is a really stupid question, but, i've read that session management was introduced with php4. If so how can i management a user's session in prior versions ? any help, links to a tutorial or snippet would be greatly appreciated because this is slightly urgent.

I have come accross the same problem. Although I found a handy session class in a PHP book. It manages the session entily online so doesn't require cookies. All that needs to happen is the session id (an md5) passed in the url query string.

As the file is quite big. I've included it as an attachment.
