PHP and MSSQL

Hello all I am trying to create a ticketing system.

I need to store upto 5000 characters in a field.

My tables and fields are all created and work fine however it appears that php will only return 255 characters even though there are much more than that in the field.

i.e.
this is what php displays:

089712349078123489071234890712349780123489071234907123489071239081748900897123490781234890712348907123497801234890712349071234890712390817489008971234907812348907123489071234978012348907123490712348907123908174890089712349078123489071234890712349780123489

This is what is in the database:
089712349078123489071234890712349780123489071234907123489071239081748900897123490781234890712348907123497801234890712349071234890712390817489008971234907812348907123489071234978012348907123490712348907123908174890089712349078123489071234890712349780123489123908174890 Jared

Does PHP limit characters on a echo???
