Getting the username of client -tough one-

Hello I need some help!!! I would like to be able to get the user name of the client connecting to my page... I think there may be some com objects... maybe or something. Just need help 🙂

I.e.

I am logged in as jared.skinner

I browse to support.blah.com

I want support.blah.com to know that I am logged in as jared.skinner..

Not sure if i get you correctly. But do you want to get the username of the person who is logged onto the computer so

eg.

Log into computer as user1 and comes up as user1

If this is what you want to do. Its not conventional.

Not every computer relys on people needing to log on to an account thats on the computer.

You may also experince users with the same username. This is something that is very much possible.

What i suggest is to build a mini Register/Login Script.

You could use cookies and sessions or variables presented in the URL.

Ok I guess I am not being very clear....

Ok I want to be able to authenticate a user only based on the fact that he is logged in to the local machine. If he is allowed onto the machine then I trust him...,. I know I know this is not the most secure thing but I have been challenged by some ASP guys at work.

With ASP you can certainly do this and I am hoping there is a way with php.

I.E.

I am logged into my machine as jared.skinner

I want the website to know that I am logged in as jared.skinner and then because I am already logged in and authenticated by the system the website should trust that. then take the user I am logged into the system as and compare that against a list of authorized usernames...

I know I know lots of flaws. But that is what they want....
