No mail sent with mail() ?

Hello!

What might be the reason for that the mail is never sent please?

All variables is optional, but the mail should be sent even if all of them are missing, right? (Anyway, even if they are all there no amiil is sent). This confuses me.

No, thats not me, I am just making a script for a client.

It's so strange, I have just some days ago made other mail(); functions/scripts on the same server that works just fine, here is an example from another PHP file.

This for instance, works fine:

//Here a mail is sent,
$address = "nosp@m";
$subject = "Download of $programname by $nam";
$message .= "Name: $nam\n";
$message .= "Company: $company\n";
$message .= "Email: $email\n";
$message .= "Country: $country\n";
$message .= "Phone: $phone\n";
$headers = "From: the webpage <>\r\n";
mail($address, $subject, $message, $headers);

So, the second script does send an email, but the first one doesn't?

Another question...how do you know the second one doesn't. Have you tested the value of the mail() function?

Now I found another strange thing after some testing....

Seems more that it depends on which email address it is sent to, that is for both scripts.

It does work fine to my yahoo address, but not to my ordinary address(which is "klas AT klas dot us"), it doesn't work with my clients e-mail either.(which is a common mailaddress, nothing strange with it)

Might there be any settings at the host that is pulling my leg now maybe...?

I did mean that I did not recive email, so I actually don't know if they are sent. I haven't tested the value of the mail() function, how do I make that please? Just echo it?

I did another test.

I did put this up on another server(at my web host):

//Here a mail is sent
$address = "klas AT klas DOT us";
$subject = "Globaltimewiz message";
$message .= "Name: $nam\n";
$message .= "Email: $email\n";
$message .= "Message:\n\n$msg\n";
$headers = "From: the webpage <>";
mail($address, $subject, $message, $headers);

And it worked fine, but...guess what, when I put it up at my cleints host, it I don't recieve any mail. When I change to my Yahoo address it works...., so it's most definitly a server issue.

Any ideas please?

Can a host has blocked some kinds of email addresses from the mail(); function?

Dunno for sure, but:

 #host klas.us
klas.us has address 209.51.159.2
klas.us mail is handled (pri=0) by klas.us
#host 209.51.159.2
Host not found.

it could be simple as that. Some people actually configure their servers to be RFC 1912 compliant, and to demand it of others. My ISP has this problem.

Can you get control of your pointer records?

Yes, I can reach the pointer records for klas.us (If you mean NameServers and things like that), at my account at www.namecheap.com.

Do you have any idea of what I would like to change there please?

I don't have access to my clients pointer records, and I am happy for that, so I can't make a mess there. 🙂 (Murphus law...)

May I ask how and wehere you did the search and found "host not found please ? ( so I can make a search on my client domain name also) please

I looked it up on a shell account in one of my nameservers, within the TCA netblock. As friendly as you sound, I'm probably not giving you access 😉

I have had good success with www.dnsreport.org --- you can enter your domain and it'll tell you all kinds of stuff you need to fix...
