I'm still a noob struggling through this on a wing and a prayer, and these are my issues:
I'm running PHP 4.1.2 and I would like to upgrade to 4.3.1
My specs:
Mandrake 8.2
Apache 1.3.23
MySQL 3.23.47
(running a php website)
My questions:
1 - Is this upgrade possible without disrupting any of my existing setup. Would PHP 4.3.1 just settle into place quietly, without pain and sorrow ?
2 - If the answer to question 1 is "yes", then are there packages (RPMs) or tarballs that contain all that's needed for one single upgrade operation ?
My 4.1.2 installation was by way of an RPM, and it required many other RPMs to be installed in order to satisfy "dependencies" (mod_php, php-imap, php-common, php-mysql, and on... and on... and on...). Hunting around for required depndencies became very tiresome.
3 - And finally, do I need a PHP 4.3.1 that's specific to Mandrake 8.2 ? In other words, would Mandrake 8.2 require a zillion other thingies installed in order to satisfy dependencies needed to accomodate PHP 4.3.1 ?
