varchar(8)

I have a field set as varchar(8) to accept UK postcodes which are usually tw18 4aa or sl6 3pp for example. When I try to query using the first example - no problem, results returned. When trying the second - no results unless I add an extra space between the 6 and the 3 taking the string up to 8 characters. Can someone suggest a solution. I cant adjust every record as I have 15,000.

That seems strange to me. You should be able to enter and query any value up to 8 characters. I've never had any problems with doing it this way. For instance, I have a last name field in one of my tables, varchar(20) but nobody has a last name that long yet.

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the space?
