annoying error

hmm, can u use "UNIQUE" modifier with the "TEXT" data type?

because the sql query:

CREATE TABLE ec_news_adacc(
id int(255) AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY, 
news_title text NOT NULL UNIQUE, 
news_author text NOT NULL UNIQUE, 
news_date text NOT NULL UNIQUE, 
news_content text NOT NULL UNIQUE)

returns the error:

BLOB column 'news_content' used in key specification without a key length

can u help im completely oblivious to the problem... 😕

Sounds like its asking you for a field length...

try specifying a field length on the text fields like

CREATE TABLE ec_news_adacc (
id int(255) AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY,
news_title text(200) NOT NULL UNIQUE,
news_author text(200) NOT NULL UNIQUE,
news_date text(200) NOT NULL UNIQUE,
news_content text(200) NOT NULL UNIQUE)

Or maybe changing them to varchar fields or blobs

tried that, doesn't work... 🙁

it returns the error:

You have an error in your SQL syntax near '(200) NOT NULL UNIQUE, news_author text(200) NOT NULL UNIQUE, news_date '

oh by the way, i forgot to mention it DOES WORK WITHOUT "UNIQUE" MODIFIERS
