Strange Behavior from IE

I'm not entirely sure whether this is dependant upon css... or whatnot... but I've managed to get IE to crash every time I hit the back button and the target is a certain page... yielding this error:

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2600.0 ModName: mshtml.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2600.0 Offset: 0009118f

and click on a person's name... then click the back button...

I'm a bit miffed as to how this is occuring...

i know it will work provided ie is completely updated... what i'm more interested in, however, is what I can do to stop it from crashing for any version of IE 6.

Update your version of IE? Since you know the updated version works fine, that seems to be the only logical path.

Jerdo, that is not really an acceptable solution. You can't expect every user of your system to upgrade to a specific version of IE.

Thalos, unfortunately, it's nearly impossible for anyone here to diagnose what your problem could be. My guess is that it isn't the "back" button causing the problem, but something on the person page causing it when you exit. I would recommend you make the person page very simple (save your old person page), then try it out. If it's ok, then you'll know that something in the person page is causing the error. Then add one element at a time back to the page until it crashes. This is a time-tested method of debugging, and should help you pinpoint where the problem lies.

Once you do find the area or command that is causing the crash, and you still are stumped, then come let us know what it is and we'll see if we can help!

i have the newest version of ie 6 and it said ie is closing, would you like to send an error report, blah, blah, blah, not sure of your problem though

Ok, on a whim, thalos, I looked at your page. You are loading a javascript module called pphlogger.js. I took a look at that javascript file, and it looks like it's doing some things with referrer, and it's also opening, writing, and closing the document (not sure why...). My suggestion would be to remark out the PowerPHLogger application on your members page and give it another try. I would be willing to bet you lunch that that is what's causing the crash.

unfortunately pphlogger wasn't the source of the problem... I guess i'll have to go at it bit by bit.

I tried a few things on your site, thalos, and discovered that you only seem to get the error when you go back to the members.php page from the individual member page. It's pretty strange. Have you tried submitting this to Microsoft? Not that you'll get an answer right away, but it's worth a shot.
