i need your help to convince "the company" to install PHP

Okay, guys here is the deal: I work for a media company. We build HUGE websites with nothing but standard old HTML and SSI.

Here are some things I need:

-- Reasons why we should install PHP (that marketing and engineering people will eat up).

-- Proof that PHP performs well and is scalable (anything that says it outperforms "XXX" language is also great).

-- Major sites that use PHP that might appeal to the owner of 40+ newspapers.

-- Any other intelligent kudos about PHP that might lean the company to install PHP with Apache.

They are security nuts and a bunch of snots. I've gotta get around that somehow. They think that anything they don't know of is inherently insecure and will flaw performance.

I CRAVE PHP, because I can do the work 40 times better...but I need you guys to help me convince the "up aboves".

scalability and performance and more technical questions that deal with both the hardware of the hosts and the abilties of the coder...

consider doing what i do...install it locally and then build a demo product that shows the speed and simplicity...

PHP 5 will be faster and have much better OO programing. I think PHP is better than ASP.NET just because its platform independant and free. It's also stable as where ASP.NET is still being developed. A few more to add to bastien's list...

I've got most of those things from my PHP book. PHP Bible 2nd Ed. by Tim Converse and Joyce Park ISBN: 0764549553. I would take a look at that book at Barns & Noble some time. Just go in and read the first chapter for more ideas. Hope this helps!

Funny, i used to work for a media company in Austin with lots of newspapers that used vanilla HTML/SSI. it was stifling. i quit. i love php.

Yahoo decided in October to use PHP on it's sites. It already uses it in a few places, but not on the larger sites. but they're working on it.

"I CRAVE PHP, because I can do the work 40 times better..." that should also be a major reason. That it would cost them more money in man hours and lost work time if you had to use something you're not familiar with. And if they decide to hire someone else to do it, then it's also not cost effective.
