I'm looking for a way to have a linking system to files and movies on my site, but at the same time to stop other people from linking from other sites. I hate having to pay bandwidth for other people's gains! Can anyone help me out?

I've searched a few PHP sites and read alot of posts on this BB, couldn't really find what I was after. Any help would be appreciated.

I've never done it, but could you do a system where you have a folder called something obscureish, and then a .php file. You can just do

get_file.php?file=whatever.exe then you could parse the URL, see if its yours and if so, send a header redirect with the file.

if you have access to your .htaccess file (remember to force ftp to transfer it in ascii mode) then you can use mod_rewrite to block access to certain types of files. The typical examples refer to gifs and jpegs but I see no reason why it shouldn't work for you.

The only trap I encountered is that my syntax was slightly different to start and end my mod_rewrite block. Play around with and see how you get on.

And quite retardedly I forgot the fact that if you did a header redirect then it'd show the link 😃

Hmm, if they're all images or whatever then you could do a specific header, I think that would work. Or do a &type=exe and change the header accordingly?

Yea, I've got the blocker to work well. It's the one that comes with CPanel...pretty easy to use.

I was just after a script that when you click on, say an image, it'll go off and fetch that file and download. With the current setup, even my OWN pages are getting blocked. No one can download the movies! However no one can link to the pics either which is excellent.
