phpMyAdmin -- install help

ok im frustrated, i admit it..

I was doing alright with php/sql until i tried installing phpMyAdmin 2.4.0

How would I find my 'host' ?
... 'user'
... 'pw'

I set them and it didnt work. I am having a hard time, can anyone break it down for me how i cuzomize this, the installation notes are not seeming to help.

use "localhost"

and if you didn't change users/permissions then use
"root" as user and "" as password (no password)

well it asks me for a password and login heres the stuff i edited.. or i mean idiot-ed (i dunno what i am doing wrong)...

what user/pass would i then use to get in?

try using "config" as auth type, at least it works that way on my webspace

is it your local server or a hosted site? just use your user and password
like you would in mysql_connect()

it says invalid settings when i try cookies

it is hosted on a remote unix server

when i do http i get the login popup and cookies i get the dialog but then it just says wrong pw/user and access is denied

Would it matter if I edit the config.inc.php after installing everything?

(it doesnt have to be installed all togethor with the user/pass set then does it)?

NEVERMIND I GOT IT.. I HAD TO USE

/u/htdocs/... for the host
