MySQL character replacement

Hi, quite new to PHP but workin' as hell at getting better.

This question may or may not have been already asked and answered, if so please feel free to give a link to it, thanks.

I have a question, when inserting text into MySQL there are characters that need to be replaced but don't know which they are. I know one where the character single-quote ( ' ) and should be replaced with a double single-quote ( '' ), correct me if I am wrong. I would like to know which others there are.
