So now I'm concerned that perhaps we are gathering too much information. I don't know- what do you guys think? Do you use stats programs to tweak your websites? Do you think it's an invasion of privacy?

You didn't do this, did you?
<script language="javascript' type='text/javascript'>
if (navigator.appname != "Microsoft Internet Explorer") {
alert("Get a real browser, we don't have time to code for every Tom, Dick and Harry....")
}
</script>
🙂
IMO, the guy's not worried about privacy, it just sounds like someone is just offended by something about your coding. Perhaps your site doesn't render correctly on some browsers? Does the site appear and work the same way on IE, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, etc? Is anything visible with Lynx?
It seems that if you want 'cutting edge' Javascript, you've GOT to know what browser you're talking to....
That said, if a site's up to W3C, I guess you're technically looking good to 100% of visitors. Generally, you pick and choose, however... at least, we always have; it remains to see what will be done in the future, I suppose.
