content based on login

does anyone know a guide for a simple register, login system all i want is people are able to register and login and depending on the status , admin,guest,user etc extra content is/not displayed. i have searched on here although there is information on sessions there dosent seem to be a guide on creating a login system.

Hm... What is it you are actually asking here? How to login, or how to give different contents to different users?

In very short:

Create a table with username, password and security level.

Have people enter their username/password in a form, submit the form, and search the table for that user/pass combination. if login is succesfull, store a variable stating loging succesfull in their session & add the security level. THen when loading pages, you can check for security level, and load specific parts of the website, based on the secerity level they have (Guest, user, administrator, ..)

yeh thats what i want but i know nothing more than the basics. is there not a guide that i could follow?

thanks i actually found a good guide and now have register login and can display links content etc depending on user level. i understand how it works however i want to display "login now or register" when not registered and "logged in as etc" when logged in something like this
