Getting ip address

I seem to be having trouble getting the client ip address, i've tried all the following statements, but it doesnt return anything

i've tried

$REMOTE_ADDR
$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']
$HTTP_SERVER_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR']
$HTTP_SERVER_VARS['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR']

when i echo any of the statements, it just returns an empty string.

Has anyone else encountered anything like this?

$ipaddress = getenv(REMOTE_ADDR);

That's rather unusual...

try:

<?php
echo $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];
?>

stick the above code into a new file and try it out, it should work. Remember to include the <?php and ?> and remember your file extension needs to be .php

Iv'e tested the code and it works fine.

no... still doesnt work. it works when i use my machine and do it locally (winXp, apache, php 4.3.2), but when i upload it (easyspace.com) it doesnt work, just returns an empty string.

Maybe it's something easyspace have done....?

Yep.

$ipaddress = getenv(REMOTE_ADDR);

it works now. why is that then... it must be somthing easyspace have done to their PHP then?

Use the ever popular phpinfo to see exactly what information php has access to.

echo phpinfo();
?>

Simplest way which depends on Globals which are a security issue.

And he already said that REMOTE_ADDR didn't work for him.
