New, could use some help.

I have had experience with HTML and website design for well over 6 years, however I have yet to learn PHP as well as how to intergrate a Database into a website. I am hoping to learn how to create something similar to http://www.animenfo.com in terms of a way to present an enormous amount of information in the easiest way possible (rather than generating all the links to all the pages manually, etc, etc). If anyone could recommend sites and articles that would help me get started, or would be willing to help me through the process, I would be forever greatful.

Please note that I am running a Linux server (or rather my host is) and I have an Ensim control panel, and the my account on the server supports PHP and 1 MySQL account.

Is it easy to understand or does one require background knowledge of PHP and other such things?

basic prrogramming experience would be a real help, but it's by no means necessary.

My experience seems to be that if you're a real noob then learning through websites is a terrible way to do things. You need to have a book that you can put sticky notes in so you can jump to places easily and look up anything with ease. Jumping around hyperlinks just isnt the same, and you'll end up[ printing everything out to try and get it straight in your head.

So out of all the books availabe to buy, you suggest "php and mysql web development by luke welling and laura thompson" as the book I should invest in.

I noticed that on the site barand suggested, they offer a book to purchase that discusses somewhat of what I am looking to creater. However when going through the tutorial I didn't get to far, I mean I have my MySQL database set up, and PHP is installed on my server. I only run into problems with knowing how my rows should be setup to display my content and other such things (note I do know how to add rows, tables, etc).
