MySQL Starting

Ok, I've been having a problem now for quite a while. I hope someone can answer it..

I installed MySQL on my Windows 98 computer so it would work with my Apache server. I know how to install it and everything. When I go to start up MySQL, I double click winmysqladmin to start it up. I then shutoff winmysladmin and leave the server running. I turn my server off using CRTL + ALT + DELETE sometimes. When I go to double click winmysqladmin again to turn on my server, it just sits there, no buttons on it function, and it doesn't load the server, nor does winmysqladmin go to the system tray. I usually have to unistall/reinstall to get it to work again. What am I doing wrong? Is there a certain way to turn MySQL on?

Don't shut it down by killing the server process. You should always shut it down properly. It's that simple!

Is there a certain command line I should type to turn it on/off?
I use the mysqld-opt server.

You can use the winmysqladmin tool or from the command line -

c:\mysql\bin>mysqladmin shutdown

or you can use SHUTDOWN from the mysql client.

Oh ok, so would it be to startup

C:\mysql\bin>mysqladmin start

?
Or i'll figure it out..

c:\mysql\bin>mysqld-opt

c:\mysql\bin>mysqld-max

c:\mysql\bin>mysqld

depending on which version you wish to run. I would advise using "mysqld" on Win98.
