I recently upgraded to XP Pro and am now trying to get back to where I was before I started. I scuttled my PHP, MySQL, Apache stuff when I reformatted.
I went over to download the PHP software and reinstall. I am confused on what I should download. They have both the PHP tar files and they have a "Windows Binary" files.
Basically I am trying to learn PHP and work through Wellington's book on PHP web development. I don't really understand what the difference is between the binary windows version and the regular stuff. I saw mention of CGI and API and I am not sure what the distinction is going to mean. Wellington mentions installing in a CGI mode but doesn't really seem to explain (at least in terms I understand) in what situation I would want to do that.
I don't plan on webhosting from my system. I just want to be able to write some PHP scripts and test them out before I upload to a webhost.
Which route should I go here? Also, I heard there is something in XP on Internet Information Services ? - Do I need to install that component in order to get this going?
Thanks for any help.
