I was just wondering... I just created my first mail script and I used of course the Mail() function. I then read somewhere that it is actually better to open a connection to SENDMAIL and use that becuase of security issues.. however I do not know if this is from a reliable source. Comments are welcomed.
I've never heard of a security issue with mail(). That doesn't mean there isn't one, however. You might want to look at the bugs page on php.net.
Just like with any Internet technology, there is always a small possibility of insecurity with information being sent between computers. I've been working with PHP for several years, and I've never heard of any concerns worth noting.
In php the mail function will simply execute the sendmail command in shell To learn more try PHP manual : http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.mail.php
