BMP to GIF or PNG

Is it possible to have BMP files converted to GIF or PNG files
(this involves very small pictures, 16 x 16 pixels) (favicon.ico for who knows) I have the GD libs installed in PHP here is the config

gd
GD Support enabled
GD Version 1.6.2 or higher
T1Lib Support enabled
JPG Support enabled
PNG Support enabled
WBMP Support enabled

Take a look at the manual. In particular look at the functions regarding [man]imagecreatefromwbmp/man to create a GD image object from your original bmp, and [man]imagegif/man or [man]imagejpeg/man to output a gif file or a jpeg file respectively (these functions will either dump to standard output or to a file if specified).

WBMP is not the same as a BMP. WBMP stands for Wireless Bitmap. A WBMP is a bitmap containing only two possible color combinations--black or white.

To my knowledge, you cannot do conversions from BMPs. In GD, you cannot convert to GIF, as it was removed for legal reasons.

I figured that out as well.
Could there be a conversion tool for linux RH that might
be able to that? (Perhaps I can do it on the command line then)

Yeh - you can do it from the command line. You will need 2 progs to do it...

bmptopnm
pnmtopng

The first will take your bmp file (I think it needs to have a .bmp extension, so you will have to check that the filename is correct beforehand) and convert it to a portable pixelmap format.

The second will take your pixelmap and convert it to a PNG format file. From here you can then load it into PHP using the appropriate gd lib functions for png' ([man]imagecreatefrompng/man).
