Communicting with Scanner and Tiff

Dear my valuable friends.

My operating system is RedHat 8 and developing language is PHP.
I expect to develop an application which should be scanned the images
via scanner after scanning the scanned image should be saved in tiff file format as a compressed tiff file. I don’t have any idea to do these things.

The problems are unmistakably listed below in numerical order.

1. Is it possible to communicate with scanner in PHP? If it is possible, How?
2. Will it be support Tiff file format? if it is, which compound has to be used?
3. Is there any method to do compress in PHP? If any method, which method can be applicable?

Could you please direct me to an appropriate source to solve these problems?

where are you scanning the images? i would have thought that this might be possible, but only if you're scanning the images on the server - i dont hink you could do it as in a web based scanner which people could use on the internet: in fact I'm sure you couldnt.

I would think that the php can communicate with whatever scanning software you have, but cant see any reason why you'd want the php to do the scanning itself - it's like asking your coffee machine to do the washing up for you.
