Header problems

Hello,

I have been working on converting an asp script to a php script.

I keep getting this error:
Warning: Cannot add header information - headers already sent by (output started at /var/www/html/general/faculty_select_class.php:25) in /var/www/html/general/faculty_select_class.php on line 122

The problem is that there is no output started on that line. the line in question (line 25) is this:

<?php

Why would it think that header information had been submited by just having that line there?

with most syntax errors in many languages, if there is no visible error on the line that the parser/compiler tells you there is, then it has to be somewhere above it.

Post the code and let's identify the problem.

typical reason for this is presence of blank line(s) in the code

I will try getting rid of the blank lines. If that does not work, I will post the code.

blank lines in the php won't give error. Tested it on IIS 5.1 and Redhat 8 with apache with different php.ini settings.

Make sure that you dont include a file that writes anything and make sure <?php is on top of your page, also on your include page (if so)

you print something on the browser before your header or setcookie function (posible at line 25 in your class) (try to include class after you use header or setcookie)

I just tried commenting something out and noticed that it was then upset once again by the <?php at another point in my script. It seems to not like it if you put <?php ?> and then start another <?php ... It will error on the next one it finds from the top for headers.

Once I went through and got rid of the <?php's and consolodated it all into one it was much happier and then worked.

Let me tell you, converting from asp to php is a pain in the royal ass. Especially when you don't code in asp and are trying to figure out its little quirks!

try to redirect your page with an autosubmit form:
replace your redirect function with:
print "<form name='form1' method='post' action='your url were you want to jump'></form><script>document.form1.submit();</script>" ;

another way is to use ob_start() function (read help)
