Moving MySQL database

I have produced a mysql database for my website. In a month or so, I plan to change my web host.

Can anyone suggest a quick and easy way to export the database to the new host?

If using PHPMyAdmin, it's easy -> do a dump (structure and data). Go to the other host, and run the sql file.

If not using phpmyadmin, I believe you can telnet in, connect to mysql and ? to get the command to dump to file.

with a windows server i've had luck copying the database files out of C:\mysql\data\mysql and into same on new server...

I've just done this yesterday, upgrading Linux/PHP/MySQL to the latest versions.

Find the directory on the server that holds the data for MySQL. Within there each database will have its own directory. Copy the contents of this directory to the MySQL data directory on the new server - no import commands are required.

Just done it ... and it was so easy.

Dumped the database to a file on my home PC; Started phpmyadmin on my new server and imported. That was it. A few seconds.

I thought I was gonna have to type all the data in by hand. PHP and SQL are just brilliant.
