wanting to learn php

the only programming language i know is html, however i want to learn php in order to enhance web development skills. I dont have a clue how to get started. Can some one give me advise on how to learn php from a total begginers point of view.

best thing to do is pick up a book and/or find some tut's online and check them out, some tut's will just give you straight code, and others will walk you thru setting up php/mysql/apache on your maching and give you code examples

Pick up a copy of Wrox's Beginning PHP, and perhaps a copy of Teach Yourself PHP, Apache and MySQL in 24 Hours. That should get you on your way.

i was actually a co-author on wrox's upcoming apache/php/mysql book til their fallout, and i didn't care for their previous book that buzzly is referring to, however, any book is almost always better than none at all, there are some exceptions though, good luck on your PHP experience

There were a number of authors for that book, stolzyboy-- many of them from this board 😉 I'm very disappointed that they liquidated.
