how to use proxy with php?

I want to connect to a whois server via proxy and was wondering on how to do that. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! 😃

thanks for the reply, I tried it but it doesn't work somehow.

What I did is establish a connection with the proxy server first and if that connection was succesful, I established another connection with the whois server. But this only returns a blank page to me and not any whois results.
Is that even possible to query a whois server with proxies?

Your development web server is behind a firewall, ,but you have acceess to an outward-bound proxy and you want to query a whois server somewhere on the internet?

I have never done that - but if I were to try it in perl, I would use LWP to connect to the proxy and send an http query to the whois server.]

I don't know if php has a similar module, but it would be worth trying (Maybe try curl). Lookup curl support on php.net (I know that oasis adserver which is driven by php uses curl).
