How can i start my auto increment from 1000 instead of 1
straight out of the manual

ALTER TABLE tbl_name AUTO_INCREMENT = 1000 // will start your records at 1000
That's kinda database dependent, since sequences / autonumbering are just now being addressed by the upcoming SQL03 standard.
In postgresql you use setval('seqname');
he didn't specify what database, so i just gave him the one i am more familiar with
