replace double with single quotes

i am trying to replace any single quotes with double quotes. i am trying:

$str = ereg_replace( "'\", ""\", $str );

i cant get it to work. i think its because im declaring 3 double quotes. but how can i refer to double quotes without declaring double quotes?

can someone help me please

$str = eregi_replace( "'", '"', $str );

I think this will work. You might can't see a difference unless you copy and paste it to notepad or something.

Basically, in the first paramenter, used double quotes to enclose the single quote -- " ' ". And in the second parameter, I used single quotes to enclose the double quote -- ' " '.

you may find functions like htmlspecialchars() (which will turn double quotes into "'s that wont mess up the code, and addslashes (which will add slashes before the double quotes to escape them) useful too.
