How to cancel CSS effect in a page

Greetings all,

I have recently introduced cascading stye sheets in my website and today i just realised that a lot of the colours I used in various tables are now been ignored and overwritten by the css's.

For example, I have a table with 10 cells of which half of the cells had a blue background, while the rest had red, but they are all now black because of the background colour option i've used in my css.

So what I want to know is how can I 'cancel' the effect a css has in certain tables or areas within a page ?

in the css file, one option would be to remove the background color on body or wherever you have it, and put in only on specific styles

.backgroundBlack { background-color: #000000; }

instead of

body { background-color: #000000; }

and just put class='.backgroundBlak' where you need the background black.

another option is embedding the styles rather than linking, as there's an order of rules:

Inline styles
Embedded styles
Linked styles
Imported styles
Default browser styles
