permutations?

Say I have a list of words in an array:

Nate Joe James Steve Henry

I want to create every unique combination of names there is:

Nate Joe James
Nate James Steve
Nate Steve Henry...etc

(but we wouldn't need "Joe James Nate" since we already have it as "Nate Joe James")

I am not loooking for an easy way out or for anyone to code it for me, but if anyone has any ideas on how to attempt it or just think about it, I would appreciate it. I have a very limited programming background, and I can't seem to wrap my head around what a script would need to do to create these lists.

Easy, 3 foreach loops do that... here see...

$array = array("Jonathan", "Dale", "Carter");
foreach ($array as $first) {
foreach ($array as $second) {
foreach ($array as $third) {
echo "$first $second $third<br>";
}
}
}
?>
