Escaping characters

Hi there,

Firstly, can anyone point me to a good article about escaping characters with "\" - I'm not the sharpest tool in the box and I find it pretty confusing at times.

Having said that, I've attempted the following (please ignore any text wrapping):

$customerEmail = "[e-mail]";
$downloadDeadline = "01/02/03";

$newinput="\$customerEmail=\"$customerEmail."\t"."\$downloadDeadline=\"$downloadDeadline;

echo $newinput;

?>

I'm expecting to see "[e-mail] 01/02/03" but instead I get:

Warning: Unexpected character in input: '\' (ASCII=92)

I can't see where I've gone wrong. Can anyone help me out? Many thanks.

You don't need to escape anything... just do it like this..

<?php
$customerEmail = "[e-mail]"; 
$downloadDeadline = "01/02/03"; 
echo "$customerEmail<Br>";
echo "$downloadDeadline<br>";
?>

That will do it just fine... no need for escaping! Unless you wanted to print out... " ", or $, or something else such as those 🙂

Thanks for replying so soon 🙂

I want to write the $customerEmail and $downloadDeadline variables to a single line separated by a tab because I plan to explode the $newinput into an array with the tab as the separator - which is why I used this approach. Could you see anything wrong with my attempt at escaping?
