Cron Security Features

Okay... I want to make some cron security, so only the server can execute the file. I am thinking of doing an ip check, only allowing the server's IP to execute the file. Does this sound good?

as long as you aren't frightned about IP spoofing, sounds good. What do you mean by "cron security" ?

Thanks for the input.... Basically, what I mean by "cron security" is that I want to make the script only execute properly by the server.

For example, my script sends email. I don't want just anyone to go to the URL to send the mail; only the cron program. I hope this helps! Thank you!

don't put the script in a web accessible area.
if your web root is
/home/mysite/www/htdocs

place the script in
/home/mysite/scripts

OR, if you want to be able to run it by going to a link as well,

/home/mysite/www/htdocs/securescripts/

and password protect that directory using .htaccess.

I converse with a couple of Leafs fans on USENET, they're pretty cool. Met a bunch that flew in for a Sat. game during 2001 playoffs, they were really cool too.
