[Resolved] PERL or PHP? To extract pop3 emails to insert into DB

Hi,
I am developing an application that has to read pop3 emails. What I think is the best solution is that the emails are gathered from a pop3 box say every 10 minutes and are then stored in a db. Should I use the php imap_ functions for this or is there a perl solution that will run this for me?

You could do that with either Perl or PHP, and neither one will neccessarily be easier or harder than the other.

Okay but how can you get php to run a script every 10 minutes?

Same way you would with a Perl script, Cron.

Under *nix:

crontab -e
wget ( or lynx ) http://www.domainname.com/your10minutescript.php

Under Windows, some other task schedular. Try Cron For Windows ( google search )

After months of wanting to do stuff like this I ended up picking up a freebsd manual and getting my head around unix. With some help of some geeks and geekets I have now managed to solve the problem. Wrote a php command line function an got the Mail Transfer Agent 'sendmail' to call this function every time a mail came in :p
