Hello,
I am about to make a website for myself and am shopping around for a web hosting company. I have narrowed my search down to 2 companies: iPowerWeb and Lunarpages. iPowerWeb offers 3 databases while Lunarpages only 1. What does that mean? I haave worked with php before and whenever I needed to add more info in a database, i would make a new table. Why do I need 3 databases instead of 1?

Sometimes you need to categorize your tables into different databases instead of squeezing all tables in one single database. Of course you can (squeeze), but it is not a good practice.

Say if you got a Program ie Forum you may wanna have another database so you have databases that arent piled with too many tables

A good reason to have site database, forum database.
Makes if faster with queries
Easier to go back and edit manually if nessacary
Databases arent too big.

For the majority of people, it makes no sense to have more than one database.

Some cases where you have a forum and somethign else it might matter, or if you have a very complex e-commerce app or something.

But if you're looking for hosting at iPowerWeb and Lunarpages, changes are you'll probably never use more than one.

On a hosting note, I could also reccomend phpWebHosting.com, although they have kinda sketcy service sometimes. Lexiconn ( www.lexiconn.com ) has BY FAR the BEST service and support of every host out there, but you pay a little bit of a premium for that as well.
