Whats the best way to do this

I have a message board I wrote for a client of to upload pictures of his days catch to the board along a with a post. He is not very computer savy and sometimes uploads a picture with spaces or characters in the name which of course show broken images when viewed in a browser. Of course I have told him to rename his pictures. Oh well. What would be the best way to rename them before writing the filename to the database.

I thought maybe rename it with the date somehow, but what if he posts more than one on the same date?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Use the time() function perhaps? Then he would need to upload 2 in the same second 😛

Thanks that worked.

Here is what I did.

$time = time();
$ext = 'jpg';
$new_image_name = "$time".".".$ext;

Wrote $new_image_name to db
