How can I create a file and then set it hidden programmatically?

You mean to set it as a hidden Windows file? I'm not sure that you can do that.

one begs to question why one would like to create a file and then set the hidden attribute ... The only probable reason one would want that is if one was setting a file on ones hard drive with the page and running it, such as a virus ... or trojan, or something malicious .... php is server orientated so it's certainly no php script...

the web app will check whether client has db.php file.
If does not have, will create a new license and create that db.php file. In order to avoid user manually delete that db.php file upon license expire, i want to set it hidden.

Unless u have a better suggestion.

I beg to question why you would want something stored on a users computer instead of in a database on ur site...just create a table called license and propogate it how u need to with the options the license file should contain...people can still see the file if they untick hide hidden or system files in their folder options anyways...

the license is stored in the database. in any case, i still have to check for db.php. if it does not exist, i need to create it according to the database user use.
