Problem with MySQL on my machine...

Hey Folks,

I have installed MySQL, Apache, and PHP 4 on my computer. The only problem I have ran into is this:

I have MySQL installed... I go to dos and get into the following directory, G:\mysql\bin (I don't use C🙂. I then attemp the command "mysqladmin create testDB" to check and make sure nothings wrong and i get this error:

mysqladmin: connect to sever at 'localhost' failed

and it tells me to check it through telnet, which I did, and pretty much got the same error. I'm using WinXP, could that be a problem? I have no idea what's wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

to verify if mysql works, navigate to your mysql/bin directory

G:\...\>mysql

mysql> show databases;
+--------------+
| Database     |
+--------------+
| clientdb     |
| ir4zor_de_db |
| mysql        |
+--------------+
3 rows in set (0.04 sec)

I still can't get it to work... I keep getting an error saying I can't connect to localhost, even though I have Apache up and running. I can't even get to a "mysql>" prompt. Would having XP be a problem? I'll check out the MySQL website and see if there are some bugs.

I simply installed php 3x on my win2000, it now runs as a service
does it on your machine?

start > control panel > administration > services > "mysql"
