hi I was just following the tutorial on how to make a simple discussion forum and dont know how to make a db http://www.phpbuilder.com/columns/jayesh20021029.php3?page=4 if anyone could give me a tutorial on how to make the db I would be most greatful, i got Microsoft SQL server installed, Microsoft access, MySQL, and the php cgi script thingy working

Try learning the basics of PHP and MySQL before attempting forums. Although the tutorial has all the stuff there to have it made, your not gonna learn anything..

Id suggest starting off with a News Script that you can add/edit and delete articles

lol, yeah I am very new to php and the personal server bit but i know html very well and know some programming (java) but would like to know how to set up the database anyways

php MyAdmin is a php "soft" 🙂 which helps you admin database.

to create database: (if you have such privilegy):

create db prefered_name;

to create table:
create table prefered_name(column_name column_type() additional options, column2_name column2_type() ... etc.... PRIMARY KEY(primary_column_name));
