Should we ask for an HTML forum?

So what do you think? Should we have a separate HTML forum on this board? My vote is YES... HTML and PHP go hand in hand. Why send PHP programmers somewhere else to get help with their HTML problems? After all, we help them with MySQL and Apache problems, right?

I can't really open an HTML forum, because Jupitermedia has several sites for HTML. I can add (X)HTML to the General Forum's description. If that's a suitable compromise.

While it may be helpful to the newbies, we all know they wouldn't post it just in the HTML forum.

I'm of the mind that if they don't know HTML, they shouldn't be messing with PHP yet. Gotta crawl before you can walk.

That is, PHP for the web. If they're doing PHP on the server side, and not as a web app, then it's a moot point.

I like the idea of having an XHTML forum, since XHTML also includes HTML.

I agree with Buzz. I think learning PHP before (X)HTML is DEFINATELY running before walking, so I don't think that people would come here without any knowledge of HTML.

I think HTML shoud be part of the newbie forum for the simple reason if they don't know HTML very well then they are new to PHP and not very good with it. So it should stay there. Like you guys said PHP without knowledge or little knowledge of HTML is running before walking.

I totally agree with that.. Newbies Forum should have a Sub-forum for HTML, i expect, well i hope that the more experinced with PHP have at least some idea on HTML if not farily good knowledge..

I also agree, people who dont know HTML or a mild amount of Javascript shouldnt attempt any Server Side language.

With you on the HTML (or XHTML, as we should all be using ASAP), Planetsim, but not sure about the Javascript. Learning PHP is helping me to start understanding Javascript. I tried learning JS first and gave up - PHP is giving me the necessary insight into how a programming language works, as opposed to a simple layouting 'language' like HTML which you can learn in a week.

Anywayz - 9 times out of 10 people's HTML problems get solved insofar as they relate to PHP. For 'pure' HTML questions, I agree that a sub-forum under Newbies is a good idea.

Isn't XHTML the W3 standard for HTML now anyway? Whenever I reference anything at www.w3schools.com I always reference it in XHTML. I still think a forum for it would be nice.

Truthfully I would like it to contain XML discussions also.

maybe an "other web technologies" forum?

we can split it up into
xhtml/css
javascript/dhtml
xml/xsl/xql (or simply x*l)
wml/wmlscript (?!?!)
flash (?)

and maybe even the dreaded asp/vbscript!

I think that for a few of the above, the company that now runs PHPBuilder also runs other forums on them and so they're not likely to include them here. I know that there is a flash forum and i think there is a javascript one as well.

Well... if they are all owned by the same company, it's not a problem. Just create a new category with new forum links, but make them open the other sites...

I will add some links and check with the people above me to see if they wanna try to add some further integration.

For now the other sites are:

Flash: flashkit.com/board (I'm the webmaster/admin there)
Web technologies in general: http://forums.webdeveloper.com/

The second one is only a few months old and it's looking good in terms of traffic.
