The amount of 'frustration' is

$frust1=$membership_months^2;  // square of the number of months you've been a member 
$frust2=$posting_rate^2; //the square of your posting rate

$frustration=$total_posts+($frust1*$frust2);

or something like that. It gets to me a bit, anyhow...my current frustration factor is 2,123.21... 😉

shouldn't there be some other factor in there as well? really, we can't add posts and (months² posts^{2/days^2)...} wait... if we change months since we joined to days since we joined (and if the owner of the site would kindly add that bit of data to the profile page) we get x posts + y posts^2... but they still aren't compatible... maybe square the number of posts, too?

no! wait!!!! then we'd be back to FF just being two times the number of posts squared!

sorry dale, you're gonna have to rethink that whole system of yours.

Nope, the dimensions work out for me (whether all relevant considerations are taken into account is another matter, of course):

$f1 = Square of the number of months you've been a member: units of time²

$f2 = Square of your posting rate: units are (1/time)² (since "number of posts" is a dimensionless quantity)

total posts: dimensionless

$f1$f2: units are time² (1/time)² = time^2/time² = dimensionless

And I see no harm in adding one dimensionless quantity to another 🙂

Unfortunately, posting rate (which I took to mean # of posts per day) is impossible to figure out exactly. I just took the number of posts, divided by the number of months I've been a member, then divided by 30. That should really be part of the the formula, instead of "posting rate," since it can't be calculated exactly.

And yes, Zabby, I do have too much time on my hands. Know anyone that can give me something productive to do for, oh, 8 hours a day?

LOL, it's almost as easy to start a multi-sided discussion 'round here as it is in a Missouri Baptist Church business meeting (they're "congregational", for those of you who dunno, makes for plenty of opinions to hang in the air...)

Can't figure a posting rate? vBulletin does...probably not specific enough for us geeks...

Posting rate is a stat figured by the board, found in your user profile...I choose to call it that, vBulletin simply says "posts per day"... looks as if, at this moment, Weed's is 9.66, Bunker's is 3.97, Piersk is 2.75, BuzzLY is 2.95, 'Liz is 2.33, Ep is at a prodigous 3.92...anyone else hanging onto this thread?
