image types

I know it is possible to determine whether an image is of type gif, jpg, psd etc. What I want to be able to do is determine whether an jpg is progressive or non-progressive as I want to dynamically load it into flash. Does anyone know if this is possible?

If a new jpg is created from another jpg image using image functions - will this be non-progressive?

you could use imageMagick to analyze your images. it provides quite a lot information about every image (anyway, i'm not sure if it shows if it's progressive or not). but i think it is worth a try...
