unread/read messages + session

Hi!
How can I do this:
First user logs in, goes to his mailbox and gets all his messages.
I want to highlight all unread messages and when user reads one, it must lose its highlight.
User logs out and when he comes back it must still show all unread messages from his previous session and all new unread messages he received after that. It has to remember this even if it has been months since he last started a session.

I have made everything I'm just trying to figure out the unread/read messages part. How can I remember unread messages? Any ideas?

Don't use your session for the unread messages. Keep all messages sent between users in a database, and then you can simply have a field like 'unread' in the table, that contains 'YES' or 'NO'. If it's YES then highlight the message.

You might want to name the field 'status' instead of 'unread' and then have either 'unread' or 'read' instead of 'YES' and 'NO'. 🙂

That way it's much clearer when viewing large databases and things. 🙂
