Count MySql Data

I would like to add a count to my php webpage. I have a database with information and would like to count how many times a single word appears on each row, example:

[My Database]

Manufacturer Model

Fender Stratocaster
Ibanez RG 450
Fender Telecaster

[My PHP Webpage]

You have the following amout of records in each catogory:

Fender (2)
Ibanez (1)
Dean (0)
Squier (0)

I have read the manual and can get the results in MySQL but i cannot get the results and use them in PHP. Anybody any ideas?

You'll get two columns back from the query, 'Manufacturer' and 'makeCount'. Treat them like any other columns selected from a query:

select Manufacturer, count(*) as makeCount
from myTable
group by Manufacturer
