How do i get the day?

How would i get the day of the year from 12/04/2003??

so it would display monday etc...

This is how you'd do it using date

date("l");

$day = date("l", strtotime($date));     // "Monday"
$day2 = date("D", strtotime($date)); // "Mon"

i couldnt find a simple answer in the manual, but bare in mind it might be being american and be doing mm/dd/yyyy instead of the british way of dd/mm/yyyy.

I suspect jpmoriarty is right: 12/04/2003 is ambiguous because Americans would read it as 4th December, while everyone else would read it as 12th April. So, long-term answer: don't use ambiguous date formats. ISO recommends yyyy-mm-dd.

Short term, use explode() on the '/' character, then mktime to put the bits together into a timestamp, and then use date() on the result.
