Well, it's got a large list of lyrics, so that's good. Also, it has no popups, which just about already makes it my favourite lyrics site.

The layout could use some work, as well as the logo (it's hard to read at first).

I don't see any errors in the code, either, but then again, not much is working.

Thanks for your good comments. Can you expand on your comment about the layout improving? Is it too plain or is it just ugly? We will not be adding any pop ups in the future, so bookmark the site if you want 🙂, and also well be updating everyday, but right now, I want to get visitors interested in the site, meaning, have them like the site layout features, etc... Wow, I like it (looks for a thumbs up icon) like Mordecai said, there looks to be lots of lyrics, so I definately bookmarked it. Also like he said though, the title pictures hard to read, I still don't know what the bottom line says 🙁 but congratulations, it looks like a very good site!

stovellp, it says "Catching every word." It's really hard to read, though.

For the layout:
Try not to use a table border so plain. The white line makes the page look boring, and draws your attention away from the text. I also recommend using a justified alignment on the text, so it doesn't appear that the table is stretching.
I've noticed a little fluke with some of your lyric links: you break after the text, and then put the </a>. This creates an extra space on some browsers, as \n is interpreted as a space.

I recommend only using two major colors. Obviously, orange should be one of them. I think gray should also be one, as it works well with both orange and black. For instance, the background of the menu--leave that just as it is!

Whenever you add stuff on the right, the page will probably look more complete. As it is, it looks empty, even if it is quite full.

Hope you guys will use it more, and thanks mordecai for the advice, we will be updating the site very soon and adding more content.
Elizabeth, if you want those lyrics, just sdearch for them and if we dont have a record, you can click a link that automatically requests the lyric for you without you having to type anything 🙂

But I fear that to open a separate forum for website critique is a spammer's delight- even if you post warnings against such blatant spamming. Is there a way to limit the "start a new thread" function to those members with X number of posts, or Senior Members or something? That way if they're gonna spam, at least they have to participate somewhat before doing so.

Well... I am a huge idiot, so I guess it's ok for me 😃

Actually, it might be a good idea to have a separate forum for website critique. If a person's motivation for requesting critique of his site is solely to spam and get us to visit, That's really not so bad. I think s/he'd be motivated to write good code in fear of getting blasted by critiques. Of course, I think we'd have to limit it only to PHP-created sites, right? We'd need a good moderator to keep an eye on things and not allow blatant spamming.

However, limiting the ability to start new posts to those with a large number of posts would prevent newbies from posting their questions -- which of course sort of defeats the purpose of the board. I don't think that is a good idea -- unless you meant only for that particular forum.

Even so, some newbie might try his or her hand at putting together a site, and want some genuine feedback. If they were limited on posting to the critique forum, they might just post it to the General Questions forum or Echo Lounge, completely defeating the whole purpose of creating a Website Critique forum in the first place!

My vote is "yes," let's create the forum, but moderate it carefully. I'd be happy to be one of the moderators if you like -- I would suggest having two or three to keep an eye on things.

I am the owner of GirlsOnBikes, glad to see some of you like it.
I am also the "silent partner" 😉 for Phatlyrics.

The original thread was indeed not intended to be an advertising post, but rather a feedback post, and I'm glad to see so many people have responded and given suggestions.

We will definitely be re-vamping the site sometime in the near future taking into account all of your suggestions.

drag0n, I meant no offense by that. I left the thread because of your post count (as Elizabeth pointed out). People pull a lot of tricks to draw traffic, as we all know, so it's always a judgement call. I should have put a smilies on my post.

The problem is, this forum is a catch-all but is intended for discussions. If everyone posted for feedback on their site (which many have), then discussions would all be on page 2.

On flashkit we have a site check forum that does take A LOT of work. We have an extremely good mod in there so it works out pretty well. It's also self-moderated to a point. Members jump on anyone that is spamming.

It'd be hard to moderate, so maybe we'd need to add more mods for that particular forum.

Thanks Buzz. I'll keep your offer in mind. I generally work down from the list of top contributors, so you'll be up there.

I'll see what I can come up with regarding this new forum idea.
