I need help subtracting 1% from total. the total is always a whole number no decimal points like 5 or 578. I also want to round the 1 % to the nearest whole number. can someone help, please.

try this

$my_number = 578;
$final_result = round($my_number - ($my_number  * .01));
echo $final_result;

instead of rounding the percentage, round the final result, it will be more accurate.
