Show only ...

Say I have something like the field $summary

And I only want to show the first 155 characters and after that simply have a ...

How would I do that?

$elipsed = substr($origstring, "0", "155") . "..."';

I would suggest that if you are shortening a sentence, end it on a space rather than cutting off the last letter:

$temp = substr($origstring, "0", "155");
$lastspace = strrpos($temp; " ");
$elipsed = substr($origstring, "0", $lastspace - 1) . "...";

But what if the string isn't over 155 charcaters the ... still shows up and I don't want that =(

Well.. why didn't you say so in the first place...

Simply use an if statement to check strlen(), and if it's greater than 155, shorten it with the above code. Otherwise, return the whole string.
