Processing Received Email

How can I write a PHP script that automatically processes an email sent to a given address?

I.e., I want to send an email to [e-mail] and have the script automatically store the contents of the email in a database. How might this be accomplished?

Are u using an external mail client or sending it thru php's mail function

external mail client. I would need capability to process email sent from any account - yahoo, aol, anything.

I am not very clear about this , every mail u send using an mail client will be stored in ur machine
Say u are using a outlook express , it will store all the mail in sendmail.dbx file , u can open that file using php and process it ( i know it's a tough job)
when u use yahoo or any other pop service , it's uses it's own smtp/pop server to send and receive mail , it's tough to catch them

I was thinking of something along the lines of how autoresponders work. Whenever they receive an email to a given inbox, they automatically reply. Similarly, many email-based subscription services require you to "reply with the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject." somewhere a server has to process these, right?
