Trouble with SQL

SELECT * FROM download_centre WHERE product_val & 2048 GROUP BY fund_trust_product, download_type, currency ORDER BY month, year

I am having a bit of trouble with my SQL above. What it is doing is the GROUP BY first then the ORDER BY, at least I think that is what it is doing. I have a download in January, February and March, and the February one is being displayed. Is there a way to do the ORDER BY first then grab the distinct ones.

Any ideas?

I don't follow quite what you are trying to do with the GROUP BY.
Here's how i"d write it (but if you are storing the month as a string it will order by that string):

SELECT DISTINCT fund_trust_product, download_type, currency, month, year
FROM download_centre 
WHERE product_val & 2048 
ORDER BY month, year

What I am trying to do with the group by is get one instance of the document type, and the three fields (fund_trust_product, download_type, currency) make up a document type. When I tried distinct and added month and year you get all of the documents, I just want the most recent moth and year, that is why I had the order by. Any ideas?

See if this does it. Should return the most recent 12 months' worth of rows (but I didn't test it):

SELECT DISTINCT fund_trust_product, download_type, currency, month, year
FROM download_centre 
WHERE product_val & 2048 
ORDER BY year DESC, month
LIMIT 12
